The University of the Virgin Islands strongly recognized the need for research and development in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Horticulture Program was created to promote and improve production of horticultural crops. The climate of the Virgin Islands is ideal for production of tropical fruits, ornamentals and vegetable crops on a year-round basis and the Horticulture Program is developing new technologies for farmers to increase production and benefit the local industry.

 Goals

· Develop appropriate technologies and information to increase and sustain horticultural crop production in the USVI

· Develop management practices for efficient and profitable production with minimal negative environmental impact

· Disseminate research and extension information through publications, seminars, field days and workshops.
