SENEPOL - CATTLE FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM

University of the Virgin Islands

St Croix, USVI

November 8-9, 2002

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Senepol Cattle Breeders Association, a research symposium on Senepol cattle will be held at the University of the Virgin Islands on St. Croix.  There has been a long-standing partnership between UVI and Senepol cattle producers on St. Croix.  The work of UVI and local cattle producers led to the initiation of record keeping within the breed and the formation of the breed association 25 years ago.  The UVI Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service, St. Croix Senepol cattle breeders, Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture and US Livestock Genetics Export, Inc. are organizing this symposium in order to update the scientific information on Senepol cattle available to the producer and the research community.

This symposium will also be linked to the 40th anniversary of the founding of the University of the Virgin Islands and the 30th anniversary of its status as a land grant institution.  The land grant programs at UVI (Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service) played an important role in the history of the Senepol cattle on St. Croix.  It is hoped that this relationship will continue into the future.
