Virgin Islands Environmental Protection Handbook

Sedimentation of Magens Bay, St. ThomasThe 2002 Revised Virgin Islands Environmental Protection Handbook is a guidance document developed to assist in the implementation of Environmental Protection Laws of the U.S. Virgin Islands. It was originally published by the Virgin Islands Conservation District in 1976, and was subsequently revised by the Virgin Islands Nonpoint Source Pollution Control Committee in 1995 and by the University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service in 2002. The current revision was funded by a grant from the Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources §319(h) Nonpoint Source Pollution Management Program.

The Handbook details proper measures and practices to implement to control erosion, sedimentation and stormwater runoff. In addition, information is provided on erosion and stormwater runoff modeling, as well as design and construction details for specific practices. It is designed to assist contractors, developers, architects, and home builders in implementing a Stormwater, Erosion and Sediment Control Plan specifically designed for their construction site in order to comply with the Virgin Islands Coastal Zone Management and Environmental Protection Laws.
