UVI-CES
is a member of the national Healthy
Indoor Air for America's Homes Partnership — a collaboration
of the U.S. Department of
Agriculture Cooperative State Research, Education & Extension
Service, the Environmental
Protection Agency Indoor Environments Division and the
Montana State University
Extension Service. The Healthy Indoor Air
for America's Homes Project is a collaborative
interagency effort developed to provide basic knowledge and
understanding of residential indoor air quality (IAQ) issues
to the general public. The project's goal is to protect public
health by reducing risks associated with indoor air contamination.
Healthy Indoor Air for America's Homes
is a national consumer education program concerned with improving
the quality of indoor air in homes. The program helps provide
awareness of indoor air quality issues such as radon, secondhand
smoke, asthma, lead, combustion gases and carbon monoxide,
formaldehyde, molds and other biologicals, asbestos, and air
hazards associated with home remodeling, carpeting and household
products. The project is being implemented in most states
through the network of over 3,000 county Cooperative Extension
Service offices. The program is supported by twelve self-guided
and self-contained lessons, overhead transparencies, videos,
a marketing campaign and dozens of ideas for program implementation.
In
the Virgin Islands, the Healthy Indoor Air for
America's Homes Project
provides information to residents and visitors through workshops
and presentations that focus on:
- Asthma
- Mold & other Biologicals
- Air hazards associated with home
remodeling, carpeting and household products
