PINK MEALYBUG
Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Green)

REARING OF PARASITIC WASPS

Anagyrus kamali and Gyranusoidea indica have no hosts other than the Pink Mealybug in the Caribbean. The rearing of these parasites, therefore, depends on the availability of adequate numbers of thrid instar nymohs and adult females which they use for feeding and oviposition.

The Pink mealybug is being reared on Japanese pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata, Chirimen variety. This pumpkin has an excellent shelf life and is a very readily accepted host for the mealybug crawlers.
