Another public service of CES is provided by the SOILS DIAGNOSTIC LAB. The Diagnostic Lab will test soil samples, free of charge, to tell you what soil texture you have in your yard, gardens, or fields, and can also provide you with information about soil pH, organic matter content, and salinity.

For information on having your soil tested, contact Dale Morton at 693-1086.

How to take a soil sample:

1. Using a spade or shovel, dig down about 5 inches below the surface, and put one scoop in a container.

2. Repeat this procedure 4 times at varying locations within your garden area.

3. Mix the 5 scoops together to form one uniform mixture and then fill the soil sample bag to the indicator line with this mixture.
