This shrub has many hooked spines. The seeds are roasted, ground, and boiled. They can then be used as a diuretic, for diabetes, for hypertension, and were formerly used as quinine in treating malaria. The seeds are also used in a traditional African game "Wari", widely played in the West Indies. (Plant is currently missing tag.) |
