Tamarindus indica (tamarind, tarmon) 

 

The edible pods of this introduced species are used to make a popular local drink, candy, chutney, and preserves.  Mature plants make good shade trees.  The fruit, leaves, bark, and roots are used medicinally for a variety of remedies.
